Transcribing is pretty hard.
Try to hear every little nuance, getting every rhythmic subtlety; make choices on what IS played versus what WAS intended. (Was that a dead note? Was that note in 1st position or 5th? Played on the A or E string? Should I write this as a staccato quarter note or an eighth note?)
I think I'm slightly insane after the year... well maybe! Am I insane or do I just appear that way? Is it true, was raised by wolves? Is Chewbacca my friend? Is Jeff my web guy naked when he enters my info onto my site?
Oh yeah transcribing!
Trying to hear bass within the mix...the kick drum, other instruments.
I don't believe any human could get it exactly right 100% unless you were the performer or had isolated tracks. I think I get about 95% at this time... I hope!
So with that said... I highly recommend making this part of your practice routine... nothing better than having this skill when you want to remember a part you came up with or a riff you want to remember and so on.

I've been proofreading and editing for Hal Leonard publishing since 1996/97. I can't remember. Proofreading is where I started...essentially proofreading is making sure an engraver copied the edited transcription into the computer properly. Then checking for musical errors and stylistic mistakes. I did this for several years checking mostly guitar books, I could play guitar well enough to get through most of these books...(don't ever ask me to play guitar for you though I'm pretty bad!).
Below is a somewhat compiled list of the books I have edited, I'm missing quite a bit but this is some of the list. Editing is taking a transcription and checking over the entire transcription...checking everything and sometimes re-transcribing certain parts or missing parts. Then getting it ready stylistically for an engraver.
