Gear Thoughts: I've tried so many basses and amps it's a crime. I was a big Modulus and Tobias fan then moved to Spector. When I worked at a music store I had the luxury to try out so much gear and take amps to gigs and field test. I am a firm believer that the tone is mostly in the fingers and technique, spend tons of money trying to find "the sound" and it will be a long endless journey. Find something that fits you and is built well, keep good strings on it and you'll be happy. As far as amps I prefer amps that don't color your instruments sound at all, something that just amplifies the tone. I like to plug in and leave it flat.
Basses Spector Legend 6 This is my most recent addtion.
Stuart Spector Design NS 5 This is my main bass.I love Spector basses, the sound, the feel. All around a great bass. I've been endorsed by Spector since the Cynic days. Got this one in 1995.
Spector Legend 5 This is my road/travel bass. I wanted a less expensive bass for touring. Plays awesome.
Ibanez SG Gary Willis Model Fretless I bought this years ago; I am a Willis fan and really loved the sound and playability of his bass.
Azola Bug Bass 5 Elec/Upright I wanted to do more traditional jazz gigs so I bought this so I could double. It sounds great yet it does not sound like an upright. A great mix in-between a fretless and an upright. I play it in phases.
Amps JBL Eon 15 G2 YES a powered monitor is my main rig. I've gotten more compliments on this than any rig I've ever used. I tried it by accident, and was blown away and IT WAS LIGHT.
Like Jimmy Johnson.just plug in and use a monitor.
I'm in amp transition.I had an Eden rig for years but all that was stolen. I haven't committed to a new rig yet. I do use a Crown 1000 watt power amp and an Eden 410xlt for bigger gigs, when needed. I tried a Euphonic Audio and I think I'll go with them one of these days.
Effects I really don't use much if any. When I record I do but live I like it bone clean..except for a little compression, very subtle though (my attack is really light).
